What LPG Heating Is and Who Uses It
LPG stands for liquefied petroleum gas. It is stored as a liquid in a bulk tank in the garden or in exchangeable bottles, and it powers a boiler in much the same way mains gas does. It is the usual choice for homes that are not connected to the gas network.
Across County Durham and the North East, that means rural cottages and farmhouses, villages off the mains network, static caravans and park homes, holiday lets and outbuildings that have been converted into living space. Many of these properties have had trouble finding an engineer willing to take on LPG work at all. Most of the boiler ranges we fit are available as LPG models or can be set up for LPG using the manufacturer's conversion kit. We size the boiler for your home, fit it to the LPG supply correctly and commission it so the burner is running on the right gas at the right pressure.

ATAG boilers can be set up to run on LPG and carry a 12-year warranty as standard, extendable to 18 years, when installed and registered by an approved installer like us.
Oil to LPG Switches
If you are moving away from an oil boiler, we can advise on the LPG boiler, cylinder and pipework needed, and work alongside your gas supplier on the tank side.

Servicing and Repairs
LPG Boiler Servicing and Repairs
LPG boilers need the same annual service as a mains gas boiler, and the same care when something goes wrong. The difference is that the engineer must hold LPG on their Gas Safe registration to work on it legally. Ours do.
Annual LPG Service
Full combustion check, gas rate and pressure test, flue and seal inspection, and a look at the regulator and pipework from the bottle or tank to the boiler.
Breakdowns and Faults
No heating, no hot water, pressure loss, lockouts and fault codes. We take LPG repair calls seven days a week with a same or next-day response.
Landlord and Holiday Let Checks
Rented rural properties, caravans and holiday lets on LPG still need an annual gas safety record. We issue CP12 certificates for LPG appliances.

Common Questions About LPG Boilers
Do you need a special qualification to work on LPG boilers?
Yes. LPG is a separate competency on the Gas Safe Register, so an engineer registered for mains gas only cannot legally work on an LPG appliance. Connected Gas & Heating engineers hold LPG on our registration, number 186715.
How much does an LPG boiler installation cost?
It depends on the boiler, whether the existing pipework and flue can be reused, and whether you are switching from oil or replacing an older LPG boiler. We visit, look at the property and give you a fixed price before any work is booked.
Can a mains gas boiler be converted to run on LPG?
Many modern boilers can, using a manufacturer conversion kit fitted and commissioned by a qualified engineer. Some models are LPG only or natural gas only, so we check the exact boiler before advising.
Do you work on static caravans and park homes?
Yes. We service, repair and replace LPG boilers and appliances in static caravans, park homes and holiday lets across the North East, and we can issue the annual gas safety record where one is required.
How often should an LPG boiler be serviced?
Once a year, the same as a mains gas boiler. An annual service keeps the manufacturer warranty valid and catches worn seals, regulator faults and combustion problems before they become a breakdown.
